Our assembly programme at Welford is a valued and valuable part of our school week and adds to the richness of our curriculum offer.
Our assemblies aim to:
- reinforce our core school values
- build a strong sense of shared identity and community
- provide time for reflection on a range of social and moral issues
- develop children’s oracy skills
- promote reading for pleasure
- and celebrate the achievements of our children.
They seek to do this by offering all our children (at an age appropriate level) a wide range of subject matter to consider and discuss. Our assemblies are primarily delivered through the medium of story - as we find this makes sensitive subject matter accessible, engaging and memorable - and are underpinned by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, our PSHE and RE curriculums and their related calendars of events.
Time is also dedicated within our assembly timetable to developing children’s oracy and their skills to learn through talk and to talk.
