Diversity Is Our Strength & Together We Succeed

Early Years

EYFS Mission Statement

The Early Years Curriculum at Welford is built around 4 key themes:

  • the unique child
  • positive relationships
  • learning and development
  • enabling environments

At Welford we value these themes and want to support each child progress from their differing starting points. We recognise that all children are different and the vital role parents and carers play in each child’s development, so our dedicated team works in partnership with families and the wider community, to ensure every child has the chance to be the best they can be at school.

To help us achieve this aim, here at Welford, our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child is celebrated for who they are. Rooted in the rich diversity of our community, we embrace and respect all cultures, languages, and backgrounds, ensuring each child feels valued and understood.

Our goal is to ensure children are happy, confident, independent and well-rounded individuals, who share in the high expectations adults have of them. We are committed to fostering curiosity, creativity, and a love of learning through a balance of staff-led and play-based, child-centred experiences. By encouraging exploration, collaboration, and critical thinking, we aim to lay strong foundations for lifelong learning.

In particular, we aim to lay the foundations for maths through our Number Sense programme (and associated play opportunities), and by ensuring high quality stories are at the heart of our curriculum we seek to foster a love of reading that will serve our children well as they begin their lifelong learning journey.

Above all, at Welford we passionately believe that every child has the potential to be a successful learner who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured. Therefore, we strive to create a safe, supportive space where all children enjoy their learning, can flourish emotionally, socially, and academically, and where they are empowered to achieve their full potential – BEING THE BEST THEY CAN BE.
