Welford Primary School

Diversity Is Our Strength & Together We Succeed

Welford Primary School is a 2 form entry Primary school with a 60 FTE Nursery Unit. There are approximately 460 children in school with an average of 30 children per class.

Welford Primary School was built in 1972 and fully opened in 1973. We are immensely proud to call Handsworth our home and to be at the heart of the multi-heritage and multi-faith community that we serve.

We value our diversity greatly and relentlessly promote respect and understanding for each other’s heritage, culture and religious beliefs. This helps ensure Welford is a happy, harmonious place that celebrates the successes and achievements of everyone who has passed through the corridors of the school since we first opened our doors over 50 years ago…

Over the decades there has been much to celebrate, with our children going on to achieve highly in many different walks of life. Indeed, amongst other accomplishments, we have achieved great success in the areas of sport and creative arts with our children becoming dancers, athletes and musicians who have gone on to perform on the national and international stage…

As we look to the future, we continue to work actively in partnership with parents/carers, our Welford families, our local community and a range of organisations in the wider locality to ensure that children at Welford have their talents nurtured and receive the best possible experience of primary school – both in the classroom and beyond.

We aim to ensure our children always remain at the heart of all we do so that when they leave here for the next stage of their learning adventure they know that their time at Welford was the best that it could have possibly been!
